The Okavango river flows gently down from the Angolan highlands, never reaching the sea, as it dies in the warm sands of the Kalahari desert. This enigmatic river casts a spell on those who enter, and rewards the watchful eye. This birdwatcher's paradise has over 450 species, including the African fish eagle. Large populations of African mammals and other animals can be found in this unique ecosystem.
The Okavango Delta is Africa's largest and most beautiful oasis. The great Kalahari desert contrasts against a blue-green wilderness of fresh water with emerald reed beds and majestic trees. It is a natural refuge and water hole for the larger animals of the Kalahari. The water gives rise to many forms of life : there are fish, crocodiles basking on the sands, hippopotami and swamp antelopes feeding on the lush vegetation.
